Assistant Director of Admissions and Diversity Initiatives
The Assistant Director of Admissions and Diversity Initiatives provides leadership for the enhancement and implementation of a recruitment plan that supports the University?s commitment to diversity. Reporting to the Associate Director of Recruitment, the Assistant Director will oversee initiatives aimed at the recruitment and enrollment of undergraduate students of color, and will direct the participation of other admission office staff, current students, faculty, staff, and alumni in activities and initiatives that advance the University?s mission to maintain a diverse student body.
Other duties include serving as a liaison to appropriate campus offices; developing and implementing programs and activities that assist students of color with the college application process; monitoring and analyzing admission trends; and cultivating and maintaining relationships with access-oriented agencies and related external organizations. In addition, the Assistant Director is charged with developing and maintaining relationships with appropriate state officials, educational leaders, and community based organizations designed to provide information about Maryland?s ongoing diversity initiatives, and develop appropriate partnerships.
The Assistant Director will also participate in the full range of admission activities, including representing the University at visits to high schools and college fairs nationwide, conducting group presentations at events on and off campus, reviewing applications for admission, and coordinating and collaborating with on- campus personnel in the development and execution of on-campus events and projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor?s degree is required; Master?s degree preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of four years experience in college or university admissions, multicultural affairs, or a related field, as well as experience working with students and families from backgrounds that are underrepresented in higher education. Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience in multicultural student admissions and recruitment. In addition, ideal candidates will demonstrate a positive attitude; excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills; a strong sense of initiative and self-direction; an ability to interact positively and professionally with students, parents, and alumni, and success working in a high volume, fast-paced environment. Candidates must also be available to travel, and to work evenings and weekends at various times during the year.
