What You Will Do:

I. General Summary

Under general supervision, assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of a program of research in collaboration with nurses and other health care providers.

II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Mentors nurses to identify patient care problems and processes that can be addressed through nursing inquiry.
  • Identifies and obtains best available assessment methods to evaluate target outcomes.
  • Provides consultation in research methods and data analysis to guide decision making in the research program.
  • Mentors nurses in developing data collection and management skills.
  • Manages data bases including data entry and cleaning.
  • Performs descriptive and inferential statistics using statistical software packages to analyze data generated from nursing research and evidence based practice projects.
  • Assists in the development of research grant proposals.
  • Reviews grant proposals to assure scientific merit.
  • Maintains policies and standards within the research program that meet institutional review board regulatory requirements.
  • Assists nurses in dissemination of scholarly projects including preparation of abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Assists in the identification of learning needs of nurses in relation to nursing inquiry.

What You Need to Be Successful:

III. Education and Experience

  • A master?s degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing or Healthcare field is required. A doctoral degree (PhD) is preferred.
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact State agreements outlined through the Maryland Board of Nursing, is required.
  • Five years of hospital experience is required; nursing experience preferred.
