Under the general supervision of the Director of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC), the Program Assistant will coordinate all aspects of undergraduate research outreach, recruitment/retention, and support services for UC Merced?s undergraduate student body. UROC undergraduate research programs/initiatives include: individual research fellowships, team-based research grants, research travel grants, research opportunity advising, research and graduate preparation workshops, diversity outreach, the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program, and the UROC-H program, Research in the Humanities.

These programs provide undergraduate students with faculty mentored research opportunities in other disciplines outside of STEM with educational experiences that prepare them to assume positions of leadership in industry, government, public service and academia following completion of the doctoral degree. In addition to coordinating an annual nine-week UROC Summer Research Institute for undergraduate student scholars, this position will support and participate in developing research preparation, professional development, academic enrichment and research related activities sponsored by UROC.

Qualifications: ? Bachelor's degree in related area and one year of progressively responsible related experience or equivalent experience / training.

  • Demonstrated experience working with undergraduate research and developmental training programs, student community building and student academic support services.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality on matters pertaining to students, faculty and staff.

  • Problem-solving skills and ability to identify, investigate, analyze, and recommend solutions to a wide range of student issues and activities.

  • Familiarity with current electronic and technological resources including experience with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and online computer resources.

  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Ability to pass a background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master?s degree and/or demonstrated proficiency through completion of higher education or equivalency experience.

  • Experience in developing and conducting workshops in research preparation/success or related area.
