Summary of Job Duties

The Occupational Safety Coordinator is responsible for the safety and regulatory compliance in the laboratories, shops, and studios. This position performs regular radiological compliance audits, issues notices of non-compliance, follows up to ensure non-compliance items are corrected; maintains the radiation equipment, performs radiation surveys and conducts fume hood evaluations; and assists the Chemical Hygiene Officer with waste pickups and spill response when requested, supports radiation safety program and assists Radiation Safety Officer as required. The Occupational Safety Coordinator uses the EHS information management system to record findings and maintain records.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

  • The formal education equivalent of a bachelor?s degree in physics, chemistry, biology, or a related field
  • At least two years of experience in occupational health and safety or a related field

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience in handling of radioactive materials

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of governmental and institution occupational safety regulations
  • Knowledge of employee occupational health requirements, environmental protection requirements, and worker industrial hygiene
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste management techniques
  • Knowledge of use and storage requirements of hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of facility construction and test instruments for monitoring work areas
  • Knowledge of radiation safety, health physics
  • Good verbal and written communications skills and computer proficiency
  • Ability to direct industrial hygiene surveys
  • Ability to develop safety programs
  • Ability to manage handling and disposal of hazardous materials
