Job Description

Laboratory Technician
The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Laboratory Technician in a state-of-art internationally recognized pulmonary research program in the area of pneumonia and sepsis. Under the supervision of the senior scientist, the incumbent will be responsible for various day-to-day activities in order to maintain the lab. These activities include making stock solutions, initiating, and tracking purchase requests; organizing and tracking chemicals, supplies, and equipment; and performing weekly radiochemical assays. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing laboratory techniques such as immunocytochemistry, western blots, PCR , cell culture, rodent manipulation, and DNA / RNA extraction. The incumbent must have a good knowledge of laboratory skills, a high level of self-sufficiency, and must be able to work independently. Appropriate supervision is provided. Meticulous work habits, dependability, and good communication skills are required.

Bachelor?s degree in biologic or chemical science, preferred.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
