Job Information

Job Summary:

  • The Research Specialist 1's principal contribution is providing technical and administrative support for a research project. Under general supervision, the Research Specialist 1 performs moderately complex lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. The ideal candidate has excellent organization skills and attention to detail as well as someone who can work autonomously but also collaborate with others.


  • Work related to the National Collaborative Congenital Toxoplasmosis Study; : Coordination of visits of families in study, hearing testing, vision testing and documentation, data entry, Data management, Data Entry, Data Analysis or Data Safety Monitoring Board Presentations, Communication with persons involved in the study before and after visits and in other circumstances. IRB material preparation
  • Assist with Multimodal neuroimaging study: Performing testing, programing, data analysis, communication of results
  • Collects and maintains data and/or specimens.
  • Analyzes data
  • Conducts literature reviews
  • Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents
  • Maintains and orders equipment and supplies
  • Helps monitor compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates
  • Responsibilities may include the following non-laboratory duties:
  • May assist in recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with
  • developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support
  • Responsibilities may include the following laboratory duties: setting up and performing experiments; interacting with other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted preferred
  • Previous research or lab experience strongly preferred

Technical Knowledge or Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint required
  • Basic computer proficiency required
  • Knowledge in relevant scientific field required
  • Knowledge of research techniques or methods required
  • Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures required
  • Analytical skills required
  • AURA system experience preferred
  • Laboratory skills pertinent to molecular and cellular biology and parasitology preferred
