Position Summary

SUNY Cortland tenure track faculty are responsible for contributing to an academic community dedicated to diverse learning experiences. This is accomplished through outstanding teaching, research and/or scholarship, service to the department and college, and by providing academic advisement and mentoring to our students. Faculty are expected to maintain a routine presence on campus to support our Campus Values of Focusing on the Students, Integrity, and Intellectual Life and serve our Campus Priorities of Academic Excellence, Transformational Education, Well-being, and the Maximization of Resources.

Major Responsibilities and/or Classes to be taught

The successful candidate will be expected to teach, conduct a program of publishable scholarly research involving undergraduate students, and perform college service including advising students.

Classes to be taught would be selected from the following:
CHE 451 Biochemistry I

CHE 452 Biochemistry II

CHE 453 Biochemistry Lab II

CHE 477 Advanced Laboratory I

CHE 478 Advanced Laboratory II

CHE 221 General Chemistry I, Lecture and Lab

CHE 222 General Chemistry II, Lecture and Lab

The Chemistry Department at Cortland is ACS certified, and houses instrumentation including 300 MHz NMR , GC/MS, FTIR , AA, HPLC , and diode array UV/Vis. Significant funding has been allocated for renovation and/or new construction of science facilities at SUNY Cortland.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Works under the direct supervision of the department chair. Works closely with faculty and staff within the department. Additional working relationships with faculty and staff in other college departments.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D in Chemistry or equivalent by time of appointment.

Ability to teach lecture and laboratory classes at the introductory and advanced level in the Chemistry Department

Potential to develop a vibrant research program that involves undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

The department is particularly interested in applicants who have a teaching and research interest in chemical biology.

Demonstrated experience directing undergraduate student research.

Postdoctoral experience.
