Advocacy Program Coordinator
Under the directior of the Assistant Director of the Center for Service and Community Engagement ( CSCE ), the Advocacy Program Coordinator advises student organizations focused on community service and social justice activities and maintains relationships with regional and national advocacy groups. The Program Coordinator leads and supports integrative educational opportunities that promote leadership and spiritual formation, advocacy skills, and political engagement among students and the broader campus community. The Program Coordinator?s role contributes to the broader advising, programming, and educational functions of the Division of Student Development. This is an 11-month position.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

Experience advising student organizations and working in a higher education context

Planning/organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, especially in a community setting with diverse stakeholders

Experience with leadership and social justice educational programming, as well as program assessment and reporting

Ability to relate effectively with students, faculty, and staff and to work collaboratively

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Understanding of various social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, Facebook)

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Awareness of needs and experiences of students from underrepresented populations

High level of cultural sensitivity and demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion

Knowledge of and commitment to Catholic social justice teachings and Jesuit Mission

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor?s degree, Master?s preferred; supplemented with two (2) years of related experience.

Job Duty

Provides support and guidance to various student organizations and initiatives focused on service and justice; works directly with 5 to 7 Charted Student Organizations (CSOs).

Job Duty

Leads efforts to provide social justice and advocacy programming to students and campus stakeholders, such as Urban Plunge Retreat and Advocacy Day opportunities; assists with the coordination of the Social Justice and Advocacy Workshop series, the Year of Service Fair, and Community Service and Social Justice Fairs; supports immersion programs that focus on connecting issues of local and global justice; assesses learning outcomes and prepares reports accordingly.

Facilitates educational workshops and student leadership retreats, in collaboration with other Student Development departments and academic units; holds regular meetings with program coordinators and campus ministers whose responsibilities include promoting leadership skills, community service, and spiritual formation.

Raises awareness about social action and service opportunities, especially through involvement with faith-based regional and national networks (e.g., Ignatian Solidarity Network, Catholic Charities, NETWORK Nuns on the Bus, St. Louis Jewish Community Relations Council, Metropolitan Congregations United, MO Catholic Conference, STL Diocese Peace and Justice Office); contributes to the production of the CSCE?s weekly newsletters to announce these opportunities.
