Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Director of Administration (Community Outreach and Engagement) for the Cancer Health Equity and Community Engagement Department at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

The primary purpose of the Senior Director of Administrator is to be responsible for developing and implementing community outreach and education activities in the new division of Cancer Health Equity and Community Engagement at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ).

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Develops and expands community engagement and outreach activities with the division of Cancer Health Equity and Community Engagement in collaboration with the School of Public Health to identify and address unmet needs in New Jersey.
  • Scope of the position requires a connector across constituencies who understands: cancer prevention and control; cancer focused health communication; oncology clinical trials recruitment; patient navigation in the oncology domain; the social determinants related to cancer; nonprofits and cancer-related health care systems; and community-based work. The ideal candidate has experience in program management and evaluation in oncology, a passion for and commitment to cancer health equity and values multiple kinds of knowledge and life experience.
  • Tracks activities and evaluates and reports progress.
  • Strengthens and expands ties with community-based organizations and other partners, particularly in communities with limited resources and opportunities.
  • Develops a Community Advisory Council, Research Community Advisory Panel. Leads, summarizes and evaluates related activities.
  • Works closely with the Cancer Institute of New Jersey?s Office of Human Research Services to facilitate enrollment into investigator-initiated trials, including cancer prevention, control and treatment trials across the RWJ Barnabas Health System and with CINJ?s other affiliates.
  • Connects and communicates with various constituencies internal and external to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
  • Works in partnership with patient advocates, community members, and colleagues to strengthen a culture of bidirectional learning, coaching, and inclusion. Collaborates extensively to engage communities across the state.
  • Manages staff of the division of Cancer Health Equity and Community Engagement, including but not limited to community outreach staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master?s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, or other related fields of study plus ten (10) years of management experience with fiscal, program and personnel responsibilities, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proven experience working with cancer-relevant health care organizations, developing and evaluating cancer-related outreach programs and successful attainment of securing grant funding for cancer-focused outreach activities.
  • Exceptional written communication and oral presentation skills, problem solving and critical thinking skills, ability to respond to shifting priorities, team building skills and outcomes oriented.
  • Ability to work independently, incorporate feedback and meet deadlines.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (PhD or doctoral equivalent).
  • Ten (10) years of experience in cancer-related community outreach and education or related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with cancer-focused clinical trials.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the formulation of successful interventions and a detailed knowledge in cancer-focused community outreach and engagement.
  • Proven ability building and sustaining community partnerships.
