Visual Communication Specialist


The Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment seeks a visual communications specialist, who will play a lead role in the design and implementation of the Andlinger Center communications strategic plan and will cultivate a visual brand that aligns with the Center?s strategic goals. Most important will be to work with the communications specialist to focus on the Center?s core audience and develop a robust website and social media presence that effectively illustrates connections with partners and collaborators and engages the audience through enhanced brand identity.

The visual communications specialist will design and execute targeted social media strategy, initiate multimedia and video projects, and manage selected print media; will exercise discretion and judgment on production and its distribution methods; will maintain all visual branding standards for the Center's website, social media and promotional materials. The successful candidate will demonstrate their strength in understanding highly technical material, discerning compelling pieces of research, teaching and outreach, and translating material into an engaging visual narrative. This position reports to the associate director of administration.


Responsibilities include:
  • Support the development of the center?s strategic communications plan and outreach strategy; develop and manage visual branding standards and policies; ensure consistent and effective visual message for all areas of research, teaching, external partnerships and educational outreach.
  • Create and execute meaningful visual communications products for website, social media and video to complement narratives written, presentations given by the center leadership, and communications materials that highlight research, teaching and outreach; create and curate social media content on Twitter and Facebook to enhance audience.
  • Design and produce visual messaging of email announcements, e-newsletters, reports, brochures, videos, graphics, posters, news releases, and other print promotional publications; serve as visual lead and collaborate with communications specialist on content for programs, along with ensuring graphic design and identity.
  • Establish and maintain a photo library; manage communications databases, electronic resources, and elements of "brand identity"; support technical enhancements to web.
The visual communications specialist will serve as a bridge to SEAS and central University communications to highlight important stories that Princeton may promote via its core channels and will be an effective liaison among staff, faculty, researchers, students and others to develop steady streams of compelling content. This position will connect with University communications officers around campus, external designers and social media experts.


Bachelor's degree required.

Experience required include 3-6 years visual communications experience with expertise with digital communication tools and content management system. The individual will be able to demonstrate experience in translating technical material into an accessible visual narrative for a broad audience.

The successful candidate will have strong creative skills and knowledge of design, along with excellent communications, organization and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage project progress and timeline is key. Strong sensibility around design and user experience with broadcast emails, e-newsletters, websites and mobile communications. Must have high level of attention to detail and be able to analyze data and present in understandable formats.

Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills; ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with a wide array of colleagues; some work is required evenings and weekends as needed, including ?all hands-on deck? annual events.
