Prairie View A&M University and the Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences invite applications for the position of Associate Professor/Full Professor & Head for the Department of Languages & Communication . The position is responsible for the management of all academic, fiscal and administrative duties within the Department of Languages & Communication for the Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to develop, implement and evaluate policies, procedures and programs affecting all program outcomes; develop and manage research opportunities and external funding; handle the administration and management of all administrative support systems required to sustain and improve departmental growth; p rovide responses to requested information and on-going implementation of strategies to eliminate audit deficiencies and prevent non-compliance with rules and regulations such as NCAA guidelines; create a vision and engender the trust of subordinates, peers, and supervisors; generate avenues for faculty and staff to upgrade expertise; and acquire funding from agencies, organizations and individuals. In addition, this position is also responsible for the management and implementation of the fiscal affairs within the department that are consistent with college and university expectations; develop recruitment and marketing plans that show evidence of faculty and staff involvement, measurable annual goals for new students and for the retention of students; annual prioritization of expenditures in a manner that supports the school/college mission; the establishment of measurable goals and objectives aligned with University, System, and State goals for participation, success, excellence, and research. The diverse faculty and staff of the Department of Languages and Communication works diligently to maintain a learning environment that enhances educational growth and professional opportunities for our undergraduate and graduate students. The programs offer students a liberal arts education, both on the main campus in Prairie View and the Northwest Center in Houston, emphasizing the acquisition of language and communication skills in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Chinese, as well as advanced knowledge of media techniques. The department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, the Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in Spanish.

Prairie View A&M University, a member of the Texas A&M University System, is a public land grant university located 45 miles northwest of Houston, Texas, the nation?s fourth largest city. It has an enrollment of more than 8,000 students and offers bachelor?s, master?s, and doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines. The University?s target service area for undergraduate, graduate and outreach programs includes the Texas Gulf Coast Region; the rapidly growing residential and commercial area known as the Northwest Houston Corridor; and urban Texas centers.

Required Experience, Education and Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Interested applicants must have an earned Doctorate degree in an area offered by the department (i.e. English, Communication or Spanish), or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate must have achieved tenure, experience in administration and teaching in higher education or proven equivalent experiences. Additionally, it is expected that a demonstrated record of scholarship, research/creative endeavors is in evidence. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to provide vision, training, supervision and leadership; co mmitment to working with diverse populations, student success, and to foster undergraduate and graduate teaching and learning; the ability to adapt and respond quickly to the changing needs of the department, college and institution. The selected candidate must have a working knowledge of handling hiring matters and fiscal budgets; and the ability to communicate with diverse faculty, staff and students.
