Communications Manager I

The College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University seeks a Communications Manager to serve as the lead writer and editor on articles, marketing materials, and internal communications. The position is also responsible for posting articles to the website and leading the college?s social media strategy.

As the Communications Manager, you will be responsible for writing news articles, engaging social media content, crafting e-mail newsletters, and managing a team of student writers. Furthermore, you will assist with overall branding efforts, influencer and media outreach strategies, and help protect and lead the ComArtSci brand worldwide.

Key attributes that will contribute to success in this position include excellent writing and copyediting skills, experience developing and implementing content strategy, being well versed in social media and content distribution over multiple platforms for measurable results, and strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Reporting to the Senior Communications Director, you should be confident working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment leading multiple projects.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production; news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; social media; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; may require supervision; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with website design and maintenance, social media strategy and management experience across multiple platforms, CMS and online marketing tools.
  • Experience crafting and launching e-mail campaigns using a leading marketing automation tool(s).
  • Experience with social media, and developing actionable strategies for engagement and measurable results.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Experience collecting, monitoring, analyzing and reporting analytical data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously with confidence.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong social and networking skills.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media.
  • Familiarity with web utilities and products, graphic programs, desktop applications, and deep understanding of internet content management
