ColumbiaDoctors (the Faculty Practice Organization of Columbia University) is seeking an experienced individual to serve as Implementation and Optimization Manager who will provide a wide range of administrative, operational and analytic duties in support of the ColumbiaDoctors' Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) Team. The CMIO Team's mission is to advocate for and facilitate the use of healthcare technology to support the clinical, academic and research enterprises of ColumbiaDoctors, Columbia University Medical Center and the Columbia University College of Physician and Surgeons. Reporting to the Director of Health IT Implementation and Optimization and a member of the ColumbiaDoctors Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) Team, this individual will endeavor to achieve the health IT strategies identified for ColumbiaDoctors.

The successful candidate will assist the Director of Health IT Implementation and Optimization in the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive program that includes electronic health record (EHR) implementation, adoption and optimization and practice transformation directed at supporting the practice's efforts to improve the physician and patient experiences, to espouse effective and efficient workflows, and to align goals designed to improve care delivery in a single and multi-specialty ambulatory practice setting. The Implementation and Optimization Manager is a technologically adept and proactive individual who also has good management skills and a strong sense of teamwork. As part of the CMIO Team, the Manager works to assist and improve the patient experience by collaborating with and assisting physicians and providers, support clinicians, and ambulatory practice staff with the optimal use of the EHR and the PM system. He/she will also collaborate with practice staff, physicians and others involved in the care of the patient to ensure best practice workflows are espoused to achieve our mission of providing the most advanced, highest quality, safest and most efficient care for our patients.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related field required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in a health care setting, 2 years in physician practice operations preferred.
Skill set required:
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to lead, interact, communicate and teach effectively with multiple disciplines within the practice setting ? physicians, nurses, office managers etc.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize multiple responsibilities and projects.
  • Excellent problem solving and investigative skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
Proficiency in the following required: Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio; and an understanding of Project, preferred.

Master's degree preferred.

Essential Functions

1. Implements methods for assessing and improving ColumbiaDoctors utilization of health IT applications and workflow to optimize documentation, performance and efficiency.
2. Assists EHR users with full utilization, standardization and engagement in CMIO Team initiatives and provides additional training and support as needed.
3. Assists practices with readiness efforts in preparation of the Enterprise Epic EHR implementation with workflow re-design to reflect "Best Practices" and to meet integrated health IT initiative requirements.
4. Assists the Director of Health IT Implementation and Optimization with the ColumbiaDoctors Health IT Committee including taking minutes, preparing agendas, coordinating schedules, identifying and acquiring resources for meetings, etc.
5. Assists with ColumbiaDoctors Quality Division collaborative initiatives that support and facilitate integration of quality improvement and patient safety with IT applications used in the practice setting.
6. Serves as a liaison to the departments/practices internal IT committees.
7. Works with Practices to identify opportunities to improve the technology product, enhance applicability and efficiency.
8. Identifies the needs of the users and collaborates with Educators to develop educational programs and curriculum focused on optimizing clinical and business technologies.
9. Assist with education efforts for end users.
10. Travels to practices in to provide onsite support, using public transportation or own vehicle.
11. Other duties as assigned.
